Coder 2.26

The September release levels up AI readiness with quality-of-life upgrades to Tasks and a wave of new CLI agents in the Coder Registry. It also makes it easier to connect existing environments and delivers ROI visibility for Prebuilt Workspaces.

New Features

Pre-configure MCP Server for Agentic IDEs

  • Improve agentic IDEs with more organization-specific context and accuracy using MCP server.
  • Set golden-path MCP configs at the template level for Cursor, Windsurf, and Kiro so devs are productive on day one without manual mcp.json tweaks.
  • Centralize config as code for consistent, governed AI adoption across teams.

New Terminal-based AI Agent Support

  • Run popular terminal agents inside Coder workspaces including Sourcegraph AMP, OpenAI Codex, Cursor CLI, Google Gemini CLI, and Auggie CLI.
  • Add agents with just a few lines of Terraform from the Registry, and integrate them with Coder Tasks for automated workflows.

Connect External Workspaces to Coder's Management Plane

  • Incrementally adopt Coder while protecting investments and operational continuity with External Workspaces in early access.
  • Bring specialized hardware and legacy systems within Coder’s governance framework.

Coder Tasks Improvements

  • Partial CLI and API support to enable automation and integrations within Coder Tasks, our interface for running & managing coding agents.
  • UI polish and papercut fixes, including build/agent logs during startup, telemetry integration, and filters to surface Tasks that need user input.

Prebuilt Workspace Improvements

  • Observe time savings from using Prebuilt Workspaces with metrics exported from Coder via Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Automatic preset detection when users manually select settings that match a preset, reducing build times without requiring preset selection.
